From mission partner in training Ann-Marie Wilson, campaigning against female genital mutilation (FGM): "There is an event on Saturday 2 July from 9.20 – 12.30 being attended by Faith leaders of Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths. Speakers are planned from the Christian and Muslim groups (not from the Jewish community as it’s their Sabbath) and statements will be read from other contributors (Rabbis; Churches around the world; hopefully even the Archbishop of Canterbury).
"We are seeking Church Leaders to make a statement along the lines of: ‘The Bible states the body is a temple of God. There is no instruction or religious obligationfor female genital mutilation (FGM) mentioned in the Bible and the practice is a harmful custom that is not advocated’.
"Indivdiuals or leaders can email me back (
annmarie@28toomany.org) and copy in The Project Manager, Hekate (
hekate@manorgardenscentre.org) with any statements – ideally as scanned document on letterhead, or as an email.
