After-school club is a SMASH

A Kent church's club has proved a hit with local families

Story

Welcome to SmashFaversham is a little gem of a market town tucked quietly away in the north east side of Kent. In one of its many schools there is stirring a new move of the Spirit.

It is happening at St Mary of Charity CoE primary school where a small group from the local church attached to the school are leading an after-school event called SMASH (St Mary's After School Hour) – under the guidance of the newly ordained curate who was priested in July 2010, and is a teacher at the school.

It was started in September 2009 and its aim was to attract families to come along and enjoy some light hearted games, Christian songs, craft, interactive prayers and some basic Christian teaching.

The introduction of this 'event' was met with immediate interest by a couple of enthusiastic mums who over the following months brought along other families all of whom were saying what a fun and exciting thing SMASH was.

It has now been running for over a year and we are continuing to grow and attract new families along.

The most exciting event that has occurred as a result of running SMASH is that one of the original mums was baptised in the newly created school chapel last week.

We feel God is moving in exciting ways amongst us as we seek to find more and more creative ways of presenting the gospel to a church school clientele who are mostly unchurched people.

As we venture forward together in faith we are seeing God at work among us and sowing seeds in people's hearts and bringing about the transformations that his Spirit has promised to bring. For further insights as to what SMASH is all about please visit: http://smash-smc.blogspot.com
